Allyson Murphy became the Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) in June of 2022. Before joining the team here she served nearby as a school counselor in Wilkes County. She was first acquainted with Appalachian State University’s SSS community as a graduate student mentor for first year students in the program and absolutely loved connecting with them and their advisors. She is excited to be back as a staff member, advocating for students and supporting them along their journey here and beyond as they prepare for careers and other post-undergraduate experiences.
Before completing her Master’s degree in Professional School Counseling at App State in 2021, she worked and traveled around the country: serving with AmeriCorps NCCC along the West Coast, facilitating outdoor education in Southern California, and taking as many backpacking and hiking trips as possible while doing seasonal work at Glacier National Park in Montana.
Originally from rural New York, she received her Bachelor’s degree in English and Art at Houghton University in 2016. She is excited to be putting down roots back east but slightly farther south here in the Boone mountains. Along with getting to know local trails and parks, she enjoys painting, soccer, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
