Full Course Title: 
Appalachia is a Hot Hot Spot (of Biodiversity)

We all know that Appalachian State is hot, hot, hot! But, did you know that the Appalachian Mountains are considered by many to be a hotspot of Biodiversity? In this course, students will learn about the diverse and unique animals, plants, and fungi that they now coexist alongside as members of the Appalachian community. We will also examine other biodiversity hotspots from around the world, and look at how biodiversity is utilized by various cultures. Students will investigate biodiversity through a range of assignments including reflections, field journals, and research papers. Other topics of discussion will include conservation, climate change, and the role of biodiversity in ecosystems.

NOTE: This course is offered as a hybrid (at least 50% online).
