Fire in the Soul: Igniting Curiosity, Creativity, Calm, and Connection

Through lectures, podcasts, research, reading, writing, artmaking, discussion, and personal experience, this seminar explores the following themes through interdisciplinary lenses such as psychology, art, science, writing, and mind–body practices:

Curiosity
Encourage intellectual exploration and critical thinking about the mind–body connection, personal growth, and rediscovering the childlike joy of exploring the world.

Creativity
Provide opportunities for expression through writing and visual art, while examining how creativity can serve as a balm for anxiety and a tool for self-understanding.

Calm
Practice mindfulness, resilience, and stress-management strategies. Explore habits that support calm—such as organization and overcoming procrastination—while engaging in a variety of practices designed to regulate the nervous system and promote well-being.

Connection
Foster a strong sense of community and belonging among peers and across the broader campus. Learn and practice effective communication and relationship-building skills.

Culture
Explore diverse cultures and the ways they cultivate health, peace, and centeredness. Examine one historical period to deepen understanding of cultural context and human experience.
