Have you Heard This Podcast?

Roughly 500 million people (and rising) in the world listen to podcasts. In this course, students will dive deep into the captivating world of podcasts to explore a variety of genres, dissect their components, and even craft their own podcasts. Throughout this course, students will develop essential skills in critical thinking, communication, and digital storytelling. Students will also gain a comprehensive understanding of the power of podcasts as a medium of expression. By the end of the course, students will have a nuanced perspective on podcasting and the ability to analyze and contribute to the dynamic podcasting landscape. Let's learn about the world, and each other, through podcasts together. No previous experience in podcasting or audio production is necessary. 

NOTE:  This course is offered as a hybrid (at least 50% online) with required meeting times in-person and via Zoom.  Instructor will communicate details to enrolled students.

Bryan Doppel

Bryan is an Instructional Design Specialist in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for Student Success (CETLSS) at App State. He supports faculty in various departments and colleges, including the College of Education, School of Music, Belk Library and Information Commons, and College of Arts and Sciences. Bryan also facilitates Appalachian Learning Communities, conducts faculty consultations, and leads workshops in the Center. With a history education and educational technology background, Bryan is dedicated to helping faculty and students achieve their instructional goals. Previously, he served as an Instructional Designer at Virginia Commonwealth University, collaborating with faculty to develop online courses using Backward Design principles. He began his career in education as a high school Social Studies Teacher, blurring the lines between teaching to state standards and providing deep learning experiences. Bryan's passion lies in supporting educators and students throughout their educational journey, focusing on student motivation, effective technology implementation, and research-based learning design. In his free time, he enjoys publishing and listening to podcasts and exploring the High Country with his family.
