Premiering in 1993, the science-fiction television series The X-Files quickly became a worldwide, pop-culture phenomenon whose “The Truth Is Out There” tagline and wildly imaginative storytelling continue to influence dramatic narrative and storytelling nearly 30 years later. In this course, we will examine and discuss the series in aesthetic, narrative, and interdisciplinary contexts through such starting points as narrative & storytelling; technology; mythology; psychology; philosophy; religion; and history. Students will engage in both classroom and online discussions, and extensive individual and group research and writing.
